Easy Oreo Balls
Christmas time at my house means there are homemade goodies! I love to make treats to give as gifts, and of course enough for the family to enjoy as well! This easy Oreo ball recipe first came from my sister. I find a lot of my most well-loved recipes are ones passed down from others. I like to tweak them according to my own taste.
Your ingredients list will consist of:
-2 300g packs of oreo style cookies of your choice
-¾ block of cream cheese (I use light because, well … it’s light, and I want to feel better about eating chocolates?)
-dipping chocolate
First, I put the oreo cookies through a food processor until I have a nice crumb consistency.
I add the cream cheese to the crumb mixture and blend it all in the food processor.
Blend until the mixture turns into a soft ball consistency.
Next, I form little balls and put them on wax paper. This part is what takes the longest. Put on some Christmas music and roll, roll, roll! You may be tempted to make the balls big, but they are nice when they are bite-size! I put them into the fridge for a few hours to firm up the balls.
When firm to the touch, I dip them in melted chocolate.
I like to use these dipping wafers because they are so easy to use!
All I do is fill up a coffee mug with wafers and melt them in the microwave for about 30 seconds, stir and microwave until completely melted.
Warning*! If you don’t want burnt chocolate, make sure your cup is completely dry, and the spoon or fork you use to mix is completely dry! Any water in the chocolate will scorch it!
Then dip away until all the balls are covered! Place the dipped chocolate on wax paper to harden.
I like to identify the different flavours by how I decorate them. I used some coarse crushed sea salt for the salted caramel (not too much!), for the candy cane flavoured, I used some Christmas sprinkles, and for the plain oreo, I just piped on some melted white chocolate. To pipe, I took a little sandwich baggie, made a tiny hole in one corner, and had a little fun!
