Do you have faith?
No, I’m not religious, you say.
But I say you do
have faith.
Do you not sow a seed in the ground and patiently wait
for it to become a plant
that will produce a fruit or flower?
Do you not wait for winter to lose its grip,
giving way to green shoots and bird song?
Has the change of seasons ever disappointed?
Has the sun ever forgot to rise?
Do you believe darkness will fall as the evening draws near?
The breath you take and the heart that beats in your chest;
do you will it so?
We all have faith in something.
Faith in people,
faith in self, things, money,
fame, talents, career.
Faith in love and
good deeds.
But these will ultimately fail
us, because the imperfect
does, and we are all
broken.
I need faith in something more significant,
outside of my wounded
self; outside of the
fallible.
But faith in God you say, is something altogether
different, for who has ever
seen God?
Have you seen the wind?
You feel it’s force,
the trees bend in
submission, you hear it’s
howl and you believe
in the wind.
To the one who desires
to know God,
He will reveal Himself.
He does not hide like some
elusive mystery.
His fingerprints are on
the miracle of the
newborn, and the might of the
thundering storm; the splashes
of colour in the morning
sunrise and the quiet
breeze of a summer
night.
To the one who desires
to have faith in God,
He will reveal
Himself;
for He left us His Word,
which penetrates
into our souls, teaching,
guiding and healing
what was
broken.
We all have faith in
something.
Some will call faith
in God a crutch,
I call it faith in
the anchor of
Truth.
What a beautiful way to describe faith!
