Disguising Eyesores in the yard
When the eye sores are hidden behind the house why bother disguising them?
Sometimes, the back of the house is just as important as the front because even if no one else sees it, you do. It was time to make the septic covers disappear, and I wanted to do it with the least work possible. Here is what I did.
What I used to create this shrub bed:
- A hose to create the shape of the bed
- Edging spade
- months worth of newspapers
- fake rock septic covers. I got mine at Peavy Mart, but they are available at other places, too. https://www.peaveymart.com/outdoor-living/ponds/accessories/large-warm-grey-decorative-cover/3516813
- some plants to soften edges. I transplanted some ferns and Karl Forrester grasses and put in a yellow Barberry.
- Enough mulch for a thick layer
When laying the newspaper down, make sure to use a thick layer, overlapping the layers to get full coverage. I have made other beds this way, and it works pretty well—it saves your back from a lot of digging!
Honestly, now is a good time to create that new shrub bed as you can find sales on plants and products!
